What and why.

Hello all.  I am starting this blog in the hope that it will inspire me to help myself and my family to eat healthier from now on.  My hubby was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year, and we are managing to control this with diet alone at the moment, but this has made me stop and think a lot more about the food that I am feeding all of us.  All of us is myself and my hubby, and my 2 girls, aged 6 and 3.

I plan to list what we have eaten, and try to work out how many fruit and veggy portions it is, and log how I cold have made it better for next time.  As I am starting on the 4th Jan I will try to remember what we have had for the last 3 days too.

Jan 1st.  Breakfast, sausage sandwiches, hubby had 97% meat ones and we had ones from local farm shop.  Lunch was a special lunch as it was New Years day we had a starter of prawns and salad, and then roast rib of beef with sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, roast potatoes and parsnips gravy, etc.. for pud the girls and hubby had ice cream (diabetic friendly for hubby) and I had frozen berries with double cream (naughty but nice).  Just picked at cheese and biscuits for tea.  I recon we had 3-4 portions of fruit and veg today but it was a special day.

Jan 2nd.  Breakfast, pate on toast (Aldi pate very salty, note not to buy again).  Lunch cold beef sandwiches (ham sandwiches for the girls), crisps and fruit for pud.  Tea was beef and veg chilli with quinoa (quinoa is better for hubby than rice and very tasty for us all too).  I recon we had about 2-3 portions fo fruit and veg today, no where near enough.

Jan 3rd.  Breakfast, cereal with milk, glass fruit juice.  Lunch, we were out and went to local harvester.  Girls had sausage and chicken with chips and beans, I had chicken and ribs with chips and hubby had gammon and egg with chips.  Tea was cold chicken with chopped salad and dauphinoise potatoes and artichokes.  I recon that was about 3-4 portions of f&v so a bit better.

Jan 4th.  Breakfast, cereal with milk.  Lunch chicken wraps with salad, and tea was haggis with swede mash.  Very simple today, but only 2-3 f&v, not enough gain.

Tomorrow I am planning to do homemade chicken nuggets so will do a salad and potato wedges with it for tea.  Will try to get the girls to have a bit more fruit at lunch time too.
